Raskin Unleashes Fury: Millions of Epstein Documents Missing, DOJ Accused of Protection Flaws

Congressional Hearing Ignites Over Missing Epstein Documents: Raskin Challenges DOJ

WASHINGTON – A highly charged congressional hearing saw Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) engage in a pointed interrogation of Attorney General Pam Bondi regarding the Department of Justice’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. The session, initially designated for oversight, quickly transformed into a significant public examination as Raskin pressed on what he termed a “documented void” in investigative files.

The Discrepancy: Millions of Documents Unaccounted For

At the core of Raskin’s questioning was the revelation that the Department had only produced approximately three million documents, photographs, and videos, half of the six million materials requested by Congress and federal subpoenas. Raskin challenged the Department’s assertion that the unproduced files were merely “duplicative,” arguing that their withholding, regardless of content, raised serious questions about transparency.

He contended that these outstanding documents could potentially contain vital victim statements and internal communications, crucial for fully understanding the network surrounding Epstein and his alleged activities.

Allegations of Controversial Redaction Practices

A particularly sensitive point of contention was the Department’s redaction process. Raskin accused the DOJ of what he described as “staggering incompetence or callous disregard” in its approach to privacy. He alleged that while the Department blacked out the names of alleged perpetrators and facilitators, it concurrently failed to redact the identities of over a thousand victims.

“You published their names, their identities, their images on thousands of pages for the world to see,” Raskin stated, highlighting a stark contrast to legal requirements for victim protection. This claim resonated deeply with the survivors present at the hearing, who were seeking justice and privacy.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s Transfer Raises Eyebrows

The intensity of the hearing escalated further as Raskin addressed the conditions of Ghislaine Maxwell’s incarceration. He noted Maxwell, a key associate of Epstein, had been moved from a high-security environment to a minimum-security “camp” facility in Texas. Raskin suggested this transfer, reportedly including certain amenities, followed a significant meeting with her legal counsel, implying a connection to her future cooperation or silence regarding higher-profile individuals.

Internal Dissent within the Department of Justice

Raskin’s interrogation also brought to light a purported internal schism within the Department. He referenced the resignations of several high-profile prosecutors, including Danielle Sassoon and Hagen Scotten, who reportedly departed due to what they perceived as “corrupt orders” related to quashing indictments or pursuing politically motivated cases. A scathing letter from Scotten, read aloud by Raskin, underscored a deep-seated professional disagreement with the Department’s directives.

Call for Accountability and Full Transparency

The hearing concluded without immediate resolution, but with a firm demand from Raskin for the Department to provide direct answers and comprehensive disclosure. His message was unequivocal: until the three million pages are revealed and the Department demonstrates unwavering adherence to legal and ethical standards, its role as a fair instrument of justice remains under public scrutiny. For the survivors and their advocates, the pursuit of truth regarding Jeffrey Epstein’s network continues, with congressional oversight playing a vital role.
